Johanna Horn, MMT, MT-BC
Johanna Horn is a Board-Certified Music Therapist. She received her Bachelors of Music Therapy with a focus on voice, from Shenandoah University in 2007 and completed her Master’s of Music Therapy from Shenandoah University in 2019 with a research focus in Perinatal Music Therapy. During her Masters research, Johanna examined the psychosocial benefits of music therapy for hospitalized antepartum patients and conducted music therapy sessions at both Inova Fairfax Medical Center and Inova Loudoun on the High-Risk Perinatal units.
Prior to the completion of her Master’s degree, Johanna provided music therapy services with school aged-children with a variety of developmental, cognitive, physical, or emotional disabilities. For the past seven years, Johanna has been providing music for early childhood and school aged children ranging from 2-10 years of age. In addition to the 12 years of experience with early childhood music, Johanna is certified in Music Together.
Johanna is also certified in Sound Birthing, Music Therapy Assisted Childbirth, Prenatal Music Bonding and Postpartum Music Bonding, and is currently enrolled in Stillbirth Academy to become a Birth and Bereavement Doula.
Johanna is passionate about the care and needs of birthing families-from preconception to postpartum. Her approach to music therapy is humanistic and client-centered, with a deep focus on the individual needs of the patient. Johanna believes in creating music experiences to not only benefit the needs of the individual, but to also be utilized as a resource outside of the music therapy experience.
In her free time, Johanna enjoys spending time with her twin daughters and her husband, her a cappella band Euphonism, playing guitar, reading, and baking.
